What is the difference between tight, dry, itchy, and burning?
Tight or pulling often describes a sensation after water evaporates or the skin surface becomes less flexible. Dry may describe texture, flaking, or a lack of comfort. Itch creates an urge to scratch. Burning or stinging suggests heightened reactivity or irritation, but can have many causes.
Use the words that fit and note timing. “It burns immediately when I apply this,” “it pulls after washing,” and “it itches at night” are more clinically useful than trying to name the condition yourself.
