The mechanism, in plain language

Adult female acne can persist from adolescence or begin de novo in adulthood, including after menopause. Relative androgen excess as estrogens decline during the menopausal transition is one published framing for why acne can appear, including in skin that this review also describes as dryer or more barrier-fragile in that life stage.

That is narrative-review language from Dias da Rocha et al. 2024. Not a survey of how many women feel acne and dryness at once. Not a cream trial. Industry affiliations stay visible: Pierre Fabre employees among co-authors, Pierre Fabre-funded editorial assistance, academic author disclosures.

A separate forehead Sebumeter study from the first post-menopause decade (#7) found average sebum excretion can fall while women still differ widely from each other. That is sebum context only. It does not diagnose acne. See Oily and dry can both be true if that report is the closer fit.
