The mechanism, in plain language
Barrier repair is not the same as any cream. Reviews of atopic dermatitis care argue that some everyday moisturizers hydrate poorly as barrier therapy, and that humectant-heavy layers without the right lipid and occlusion logic can fail to hold water. That failure mode is one way a layer can feel like it sits on the surface, or like it is gone by bed. That is barrier math language, not a menopause cream trial.
These papers studied atopic dermatitis and barrier formulations, not a peri/post-menopause cream RCT. Use them to question the mental model that “moisturizer” is one thing. Not to diagnose your skin. Not to sell a jar.
Honesty limits
This page explains reviews and one physiology paper. It does not tell you what your skin is doing.
- AD frame first. Elias 2019 and Elias 2022 are written for atopic dermatitis barrier care.
- “Not all moisturizers help” is their review argument, not a menopause prevalence number.
- Physiologic barrier repair language means the three key stratum corneum lipids in enough amount and a sensible ratio, not a shopping list on this site.
- Nobody here measured “sits useless” or “gone by bed” as a study endpoint. That is moment language for a felt film failure.
- Elias COI. Peter Elias is a co-inventor of a prescription barrier-repair product (EpiCeram / Primus). Cite principles, not brands. There is no brand call to action on this page.
